CHATEAU DE VILLESAVIN
The Château de Villesavin is a castle located in the commune of Tour-en-Sologne. More precisely, it is 17 km from Blois, 9 km from Chambord, and 6 km from Cheverny. The Château de Villesavin was built for Jean le Breton, Secretary of Finance to Francis I. In 1525, he was taken prisoner during the Battle of Pavia and found himself imprisoned in the same fortress as Francis I. When the two men returned to France, Francis I appointed Jean le Breton governor of the Chambord construction project. He was then tasked with restarting the project, which had been interrupted for 27 months due to the Italian Wars, overseeing it, and paying the workers. Francis I also granted him the land of Villesavin for the construction of this castle. Jean le Breton then hired some French and Italian workers and artisans from Chambord to build it (1527-1537). The Château de Villesavin was nicknamed "Chambord's Construction Site Hut." After Jean le Breton, the château was home to prominent noble families, including Jean Phélippeaux, advisor to King Henry IV. Counts and marquises also resided there, making some modifications during the 19th century. Today, the third generation of the de Sparre family has taken up the mantle.
