About Chateau de Boutheon
Add to favoritesLocated in Andrézieux-Bouthéon, the Château de Bouthéon is a multifaceted site that has stood the test of time, evolving from a medieval fortress to an elegant Renaissance residence. Now owned by the municipality, this historic monument offers more than just state rooms; it also houses a modern interpretation center dedicated to the Loire River and the heritage of the Forez region. Its exterior architecture, characterized by tall towers and arcaded galleries, reflects the successive alterations that have given it a unique, eclectic charm. The estate covers more than 12 hectares, offering a comprehensive experience blending culture and nature. Inside, visitors can explore furnished apartments, as well as an aquarium showcasing Loire River species and a variety of temporary exhibitions. The themed gardens (vegetable garden, rose garden, medieval garden) and the animal park, home to local breeds, make this château a vibrant place where history intertwines with the preservation of regional biodiversity.
Tip for an even more exceptional visit.
The "Life in a Castle" Trail: Don't miss the chance to climb to the upper levels to admire the monumental timber frame and enjoy the view over the Forez plain; this is where you can best appreciate the building's architectural evolution. The Picnic Break: The park is free to access (excluding the paid interior tour) and offers ample shaded areas. It's the perfect spot for a family break after greeting the Forez donkeys and the goats in the animal park.
