About Chateau Cormatin
Add to favoritesIn southern Burgundy, Cormatin is an early 17th-century château that has miraculously preserved its original decor. It is one of the few places in France where one can see what the taste of Marie de Medici's era was like. The apartments are a dazzling display of color, gilding, ceiling paintings, and silk tapestries. The guardroom and the cabinet of curiosities are invaluable testimonies to aristocratic life before Versailles. The park is a delight for walkers. Spanning 12 hectares, it features a large boxwood maze (great fun for children), flower gardens, and ponds fed by the Grosne River. The kitchen garden is also meticulously maintained. The château nearly fell into ruin in the 20th century before being saved by enthusiasts who have transformed it into one of the most welcoming sites in the region.
Tip for an even more exceptional visit.
The castle is located on the "Greenway". If you enjoy cycling, it's the ideal stop on the route linking Chalon-sur-Saône to Mâcon.
