About Chateau de Bouges

Add to favorites

Built in 1765 for a wealthy ironmaster, the Château de Bouges is a masterpiece of neoclassical architecture. Its harmonious façades and clean lines are so reminiscent of the Petit Trianon at Versailles that it inherited the nickname. Beyond its architecture, it is the atmosphere of a "lived-in home" that captivates: bequeathed to the State by its last owners (the Viguier couple, former directors of the BHV department store), the château houses an exceptional collection of 18th-century furniture, objets d'art, and paintings, arranged with exquisite taste as if the owners had just stepped out. The estate covers 80 hectares and offers a remarkable diversity of landscapes. After admiring the grand stables and the equestrian museum—one of the finest in France—visitors can stroll through the flower garden, famous for its brightly colored blooms used to decorate the château. Between the English-style park with its centuries-old trees and the French-style boxwood parterres, Bouges is an invitation to reverie and the gentle aristocratic lifestyle.

Tip for an even more exceptional visit.

The Flower Garden: This is the jewel of the estate. If you visit between June and September, the greenhouses and flower gardens are bursting with color. It is here that the flowers are picked to create the sumptuous fresh bouquets that adorn every room of the château. The "Smart" Rate: If you have visited the Château de Valençay or other partner sites in the department (such as Montrésor or the Cité de Loches), present your ticket to benefit from a reduced rate at Bouges.
