About Chateau de Fleville

Add to favorites

A Renaissance Jewel in Lorraine Just minutes from Nancy, the Château de Fléville offers a captivating journey through the ages. This exceptional historical monument is one of the few castles in the region to have survived the ravages of the Thirty Years' War, built on the orders of Richelieu. Its unique silhouette is distinguished by the harmonious fusion of an imposing 14th-century medieval keep and an exquisitely refined Renaissance façade, adorned with a 35-meter-long balcony sculpted with goldsmith-like precision. This estate, inhabited by the same family for over two centuries, exudes an atmosphere of rare elegance in the heart of eastern France. The castle's interior is a veritable treasure trove, notably housing the wood paneling from the Hall of the Estates of Lorraine, salvaged from the Ducal Palace in Nancy. As you explore the apartments, you will discover collections of Gobelins tapestries and refined furnishings that reflect the French art of living. The visit continues in a vast romantic park classified as a Remarkable Garden, where a flowery vegetable garden, an orangery and an English-style park coexist, offering an unforgettable bucolic stroll for lovers of heritage and botany in Meurthe-et-Moselle.

Tip for an even more exceptional visit.

To fully appreciate the atmosphere, I recommend planning your visit during the spring or autumn when the gardens are in bloom, when the park's colors beautifully highlight the golden stone of the façade. A guided tour is essential to understanding the close ties between the owners and the history of the Dukes of Lorraine; the anecdotes shared by the guides bring the residence incredibly to life. Note that the château remains a private residence, which sometimes limits opening days: be sure to check the schedule before setting off. Bonus tip: Don't forget to ask for access to the "Dukes' Trail" in the park to admire the château from a different perspective, perfect for photography. If you're visiting the region with family, keep an eye on the calendar of themed events such as Easter egg hunts or Heritage Days, which transform the estate into a historical adventure playground. Finally, combine your visit with a trip to Place Stanislas in Nancy for a day dedicated entirely to the splendor of Lorraine.
