About Cite de l'Architecture Et du Patrimoine
Add to favoritesLocated in the Paris wing of the Palais de Chaillot, the Cité de l’architecture et du patrimoine (City of Architecture and Heritage) is the world’s largest architecture center. This spectacular museum offers a unique journey through time and space, from the Middle Ages to the present day. Its centerpiece, the Gallery of Plaster Casts, features life-size reproductions of cathedral portals and sculpted masterpieces, allowing visitors to admire details normally invisible to the naked eye. It is a fascinating place to understand how humankind has shaped its environment over the centuries. The experience continues in the galleries dedicated to murals and stained glass, as well as modern and contemporary architecture, including a full-scale reproduction of an apartment in Le Corbusier’s Cité Radieuse. Beyond its collections, the museum is a feat of scenography that engages with the city: its immense bay windows offer breathtaking views of Parisian monuments. This is an unmissable visit for history, design and photography enthusiasts, offering a unique perspective on our built heritage in a majestic setting.
Tip for an even more exceptional visit.
For a truly memorable visit and unforgettable photos, head to the Plaster Cast Gallery on the first floor. It offers one of the most spectacular (and least crowded) views of the Eiffel Tower. The large windows frame the "Iron Lady" with such precision that it seems to enter the museum itself. My expert tip: try to plan your visit for late afternoon to see the light change on the stone casts, then enjoy the sunset over the Trocadéro directly from the museum galleries, away from the hustle and bustle of the outside plaza.
