About Hotel de la Marine
Add to favoritesFormerly the headquarters of the Crown Furniture Repository and then the Ministry of the Navy for over two centuries, the Hôtel de la Marine is an architectural masterpiece by Ange-Jacques Gabriel. This palace, a twin of the Hôtel de Crillon, has reopened after a monumental restoration that has returned it to its original splendor. Visitors can now stroll through the 18th-century stewards' apartments, with their exquisitely refined wood paneling and silks, or marvel at the state rooms gilded with fine gold, which bear witness to the grandeur of France. Beyond the historic apartments, the museum houses the prestigious Al Thani Collection, one of the world's richest private art collections, presented in a modern and minimalist setting. Whether to admire the masterpieces of ancient goldsmithing or to contemplate the Place de la Concorde from the colonnaded loggia, the Hôtel de la Marine stands out as an essential cultural stopover, blending French history, art of living and an unobstructed view of the Obelisk.
Tip for an even more exceptional visit.
The Secret Loggia: Don't miss stepping out onto the exterior loggia. It's one of the few places where you can overlook the Place de la Concorde and the historic axis (Tuileries-Champs-Élysées) with an exceptional perspective, perfect for photos. The "Confident": The tour is conducted using a high-tech audio headset called "The Confident." It activates automatically based on your position and offers a highly immersive narration, a far cry from the somewhat tedious traditional audio guides.
