About Chateau de Fleury-la-foret
Add to favoritesBuilt in the 17th century, the Château de Fleury-la-Forêt is a masterpiece of architectural consistency. Much of its current elegance is thanks to Knight Jacques Dauger, who initiated a major renovation campaign in 1700. By adding two wings to the original stronghold while strictly using original materials like flint, brick, and stone, he preserved the harmonious Louis XIII style. This extensive project was completed in 1789 with the installation of the grand ceremonial gates. After centuries of ownership by families such as the Combault d'Auteuil, the estate suffered during World War II and sat vacant following the conflict. It was not until 1978 that the Caffin family acquired the property, launching a massive restoration effort. Their dedication brought this Norman gem back to its former glory, leading to its official classification as a "Monument Historique" in 1993. Today, the castle stands as a symbol of architectural resilience and passion for heritage preservation.
