About Chateau de Lavardens
Add to favoritesThe Château de Lavardens, the former capital of the Counts of Armagnac, stands proudly on a rocky spur, overlooking one of the "Most Beautiful Villages of France." Its architecture is unique: its massive towers and ochre stone facades possess an imposing presence and bold perspectives inherited from the 17th century. The château is famous for its brick and stone floors with varied geometric patterns (more than 20 different designs), unique in Europe. Today, Lavardens is not a static museum but a very active art center. It hosts major temporary exhibitions each year, notably a renowned exhibition of Provençal figurines (santons) in winter. A visit allows you to discover rooms with impressive dimensions and monumental timber frames. The surrounding village, with its steep, winding streets, perfectly complements the experience.
Tip for an even more exceptional visit.
Climb up to the castle terraces at sunset; the ochre stone literally lights up and the view over the Gers valleys irresistibly evokes the landscapes of Tuscany.
