About Chateau de Flecheres
Add to favoritesBuilt in a single phase between 1610 and 1616, the Château de Fléchères is the largest castle near Lyon open to the public. What makes this historic monument truly unique is its interior decor: in 1632, the Italian painter Pietro Ricchi created a series of frescoes spanning ten rooms. These miraculously preserved wall paintings transport visitors to the world of the Italian Renaissance, featuring hunting scenes, trompe-l'œil architecture, and mythology. A tour of Fléchères is an "extravagant" journey through a home that has retained all its nobility. Beyond the frescoes, visitors can admire furnished apartments, a monumental working kitchen, and magnificent carved fireplaces. The castle is set within a 100-acre park, where French formal gardens and water features invite tranquility. Fléchères is more than a castle; it is a piece of Italy nestled in the Lyon countryside, offering a striking contrast between its austere exterior and the explosion of color within.
Tip for an even more exceptional visit.
A Closer Look: Take your time to observe the faces in Pietro Ricchi’s frescoes. The painter had fun integrating very human and realistic expressions for the time. Pro Tip: Finish your visit with a walk to the large pond to capture the perfect reflection of the facade in the water.
