Chateau de Pesteils

Majestically overlooking the Cère Valley from its rocky promontory in Polminhac, the Château de Pesteils is one of the most impressive sites in the Cantal region. This fortress, whose origins date back to the Middle Ages, is striking first and foremost for its monumental 40-meter-high keep, a true masterpiece of military architecture. Over the centuries, the château has evolved into a refined pleasure residence, elegantly blending medieval elements with Renaissance and 17th-century additions, all preserved by the same family for nearly eight centuries. The interior of the château is an invitation to travel back in time, with rooms richly adorned with 15th-century frescoes and painted ceilings. A visit allows you to discover antique kitchens, meticulously furnished state rooms, and historic bedrooms that bear witness to the lifestyle of the Auvergne nobility. The highlight of the show remains the climb to the keep, whose rampart walk offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the Cantal mountains and the slate roofs of the village below.
