About Chateau de Bridore

Add to favorites

In contrast to austere fortresses, the Château de Bridoire, located in Ribagnac near Bergerac, is nicknamed the "Castle of Games." This 15th- and 16th-century building has had a turbulent history, saved from abandonment and looting in the 2010s thanks to a passionate community effort. Today, it offers an enchanting setting where Renaissance architecture stands alongside perfectly restored medieval outbuildings, all nestled in a preserved green oasis. Bridoire's main attraction is its unique concept: immersion through play. Here, you don't just admire the furniture from behind red ropes. The castle and its grounds are dotted with around a hundred historical wooden games (giant chessboards, archery, skill games) accessible to all. It's the ideal visit for those looking to combine historical heritage with a fun and relaxing experience, far removed from the rigid atmosphere of some traditional monuments.

Tip for an even more exceptional visit.

Aim for summer evenings: If you're traveling in July or August, don't miss the "Nights of Bridoire." The castle is illuminated by candlelight and offers themed trails with nighttime riddles, creating a mysterious and magical atmosphere quite different from the daytime visit. Pack a picnic or snack: The site is designed for families. There are large shaded areas and a small restaurant on site offering local products. Take the time to get lost in the labyrinth in the valley; it's a great way to end your visit before leaving.
