About Chateau de Sucy

Add to favorites

Less publicized than its neighbor in Vincennes, the Château de Sucy-en-Brie (Val-de-Marne) is nonetheless a jewel of 17th-century classical architecture. Nicknamed the "Little Versailles," it was built by François Le Vau (brother of the architect of Versailles) and decorated by renowned artists such as Charles Le Brun. Long neglected in the 20th century, this fully restored historical monument now houses the Maison des Arts et des Musiques (the municipal conservatory), thus blending historical heritage with a vibrant cultural scene. A visit allows one to admire remarkable painted ceilings, period sculptures, and an elegant ashlar façade topped with mansard roofs. The château is situated in the heart of a landscaped park, offering an ideal setting for a stroll, with a classical vista overlooking the main courtyard and gardens leading down to the Morbras Valley. This is an essential stop for lovers of "Grand Siècle" architecture looking for an intimate and historic place on the outskirts of Paris.
