Chateau d'Entrecasteaux

A sentinel of Provençal history Dominating the picturesque village of Entrecasteaux, this château is one of the most imposing in the Var region. Originally a medieval fort transformed into a pleasure residence in the 16th and 17th centuries, it belonged to prominent Provençal noble families, including the Castellane and Grignan families, and even the famous Admiral de Bruni d'Entrecasteaux. With its typical ochre façades and richly decorated interiors, it offers a fascinating glimpse into the aristocratic life of the Ancien Régime, while retaining an impressive defensive structure with its vaulted kitchens and dungeons. A haven of greenery and patronage The château is surrounded by a magnificent French formal garden, designed according to the principles of Le Nôtre, which is best admired from the upper terraces. Saved from ruin in the 1970s by British photographer Ian McGarvie-Munn, the site is now a private residence, inhabited and brought to life by passionate patronage. Visitors can discover tastefully furnished rooms, antique tapestries, and contemporary art exhibitions, making this place a living bridge between the splendor of the past and present-day creativity.
